How do mouthwash and oral rinses help my dental health?

Mouthwashes provide excellent protection from cavities, tooth sensitivity, and keep your breath smelling fresh. They are designed to be used in addition to your daily brushing and flossing (not instead of). You may need a specific type of mouthwash if you suffer from certain conditions, such as dry mouth. If you are unclear which type of mouthwash is best for you, we would be happy to advise you.

Why do I have to do a Dental Examination each time I visit?

Dental examinations are necessary to check if there are any tooth or gum issues that have arisen between visits. Some dental problems may not be readily visible, and may affect below the surface of the gums, and within the tooth. These exams help us to spot dental issues from early, so we can treat it as soon as possible. A thorough dental exam is recommended every 6 months. This prevents bigger and more expensive issues in the future, because a ‘little prevention, is better than a cure”!

How can I keep my child calm during his dental visit?

As it turns out we are great with kids! We have friendly, pleasant staff, cheerful colors, and cute kids characters all throughout our dental practice décor! Our Dentists will make you feel at ease as a parent, by letting you know what to expect. We encourage parents to participate and be upbeat, and positive about the experience, however if you are fearful, you may project your fear and it may be better for you to trust your tot to us to get through their treatment. If you choose to participate, you can encourage them through positivity and praise, a warm smile, and sometimes…where necessary…a good old fashioned (non- sugary) dentist bribe! This will help your child to overcome their fear of the dentist.

How can I take care of my teeth between dental visits?

Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and don’t forget to floss after meals!

Avoid foods and drinks that are high in sugars, which cause cavities and plaque.

Brushing your tongue is important to remove food particles and bacteria that cause foul breath.

Use a recommended mouthwash and a fluoride toothpaste to prevent cavities and freshen breath.

Avoid damaging habits such as smoking which causes stains and can lead to cancers.

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption

Avoid crunching on hard foods such as shellfish, ice, bones (as these can chip or crack the tooth enamel).

Visit your dentist every six months for a routine checkup

What is Invisalign® and how can it help me?

Invisalign® is a customized, and clear alternative to the traditional metal braces. They help to realign the teeth and correct dental issues in a non-invasive way. Invisalign® clear aligners are made from SmartTrack material, so they are more comfortable than braces and easier to put on and take off while eating or playing sports. They are custom fitted to your teeth to straighten them better, are more convenient, barely noticeable and results can be visible in as little as 6 months!

How bad are ‘fashion braces’ for my teeth?

Although trendy, ‘fashion braces’ can cause more harm than good to your nerve, and teeth. Going to an unqualified person, places you at risk of picking up mouth sores and infections that may require surgery to treat. In addition, you risk poisoning from toxic materials, tooth discoloration, decay, and loss from the glues used. Also, you may suffer from foul breath, crooked teeth, and in some cases loss of the tooth. No fashion trend is worth risking your smile! Visit a certified orthodontist, for these specialty procedures.
